KANETA Masanao
Ceramicist
Born in 1953, Yamaguchi
As the 8th Head of Tenchōzan Kiln, KANETA Masanao is known for his distinctive kurinuki technique, which compresses a block of clay to carve out the interior to form dynamic shapes. Representing contemporary Hagi ware, he continues to pursue innovative expressions while engaging deeply with tradition.
His ceramic cup is formed in a spiral structure rising from base to rim. The upper section is partially glazed, while the lower portion remains unglazed, revealing the raw texture and tone of the clay.
