This medium-sized pitcher features Matsumoto’s ash glaze and zaffer layered over Shigaraki clay, with areas of texture intentionally left visible. Sharper edges and subtle dents give the form a more angular presence, while crystalline glaze effects catch and reflect light.

Both functional and sculptural, it serves beautifully for water or sake and stands confidently on the table.

Artist

Tomohiro Matsumoto is a Japanese potter working with Shigaraki clay, continuing a family tradition that spans over 150 years. As a fifth-generation potter, he is known for his bold approach to glaze and color. He introduces vivid red tones that contrast with Shigaraki’s traditional hi-iro (緋色) glaze. Today, his work explores a wider range of glazes and firing methods, using materials such as wood ash to create durable, expressive surfaces shaped by fire.

Unless otherwise noted above, all items can be used following the general guidelines below. These suggestions help ensure the longevity of each piece and maintain its appearance over time.

Dishwasher:
Our items are dishwasher-safe; however, we highly recommend placing them separately and leaving at least one empty slot between pieces. This helps prevent accidental damage caused by high-pressure water or collisions inside the machine.

Please avoid using any items from the Signature Collections or pieces that include metal elements (such as gold or silver accents, or Kintsugi repairs involving metal) as they may spark or cause a fire.

Oven:
We do not recommend using any of our items in an oven.
