Sculpted in the shape of a rowing boat with a distinct central line, this small plate is full of character.  There are intentional burning spots created during firing, which add a rustic texture. Its unique silhouette makes it a perfect vessel for serving snacks and small side dishes, or simply as an interesting accent piece for your interior.

Shigaraki ware is characterized by its iconic natural color gradient of browns and oranges. The surface often features rustic, rough and earthy textures caused by the existence of feldspar and quartz sand in the clay.

Artist

Yu Sugimoto is a Japanese pottery artist rooted in the traditions of Shigaraki-ware. Sugimoto’s pieces make full use of the natural character of Shigaraki clay. He plays with geometric shapes and unique glazes like Kohiki and Kakewake. His work highlights the rough, natural feel of the clay to create interesting, modern designs.

Unless otherwise noted above, all items can be used following the general guidelines below. These suggestions help ensure the longevity of each piece and maintain its appearance over time.

Dishwasher:
Our items are dishwasher-safe; however, we highly recommend placing them separately and leaving at least one empty slot between pieces. This helps prevent accidental damage caused by high-pressure water or collisions inside the machine.

Please avoid using any items from the Signature Collections or pieces that include metal elements (such as gold or silver accents, or Kintsugi repairs involving metal) as they may spark or cause a fire.

Oven:
We do not recommend using any of our items in an oven.
