A perfectly sized deep bowl that is fundamental to Japanese dining. Designed for classic servings of rice, or warming miso soup. Also perfect for holding food from sharing dishes.
The design features engobes applied using a brush, beautifully evoking the fluidity and energy of Japanese calligraphy. Although the major glaze obscures the original color of the clay, small sections intentionally left beneath the surface serve as a reminder of Shigaraki’s iconic, natural earth. The subtle, flowing texture adds a sense of refined movement, turning each piece into a visually appealing and elegant canvas that complements both modern and traditional table settings.
(More stock will be available at the end of January 2026.)

Our items are dishwasher-safe; however, we highly recommend placing them separately and leaving at least one empty slot between pieces. This helps prevent accidental damage caused by high-pressure water or collisions inside the machine.

How Oogoya pieces are made
-
Design
Designed for daily use, these pieces are comfortable, functional, and aesthetically balanced. The minimal, timeless design blends into modern homes while echoing the rich craftsmanship of this ancient Japanese kiln town.
-
Material
Shigaraki clay is known for its warm tones, coarse texture, natural strength, and its ability to form large-scale pieces. We carefully select the most suitable clay from Shigaraki or nearby regions, ensuring its subtle variations give every item a unique presence that ages beautifully.
-
Crafting
Every shape, whether hand-thrown or molded, is created using traditional techniques guided by our experienced artisans. Their meticulous care and the small variations reflecting the maker's hand fill each piece with unique soul and individuality.
-
Firing
Firing in modern and traditional kilns at various temperatures enhances the clay’s texture and glazing effects. Iron spots, gradients, and slight natural warping are authentic signatures, no one piece is exactly the same, adding layers of uniqueness to Shigaraki-ware.
